Presidents Top Penn State Altoona to Cap Weekend Slate

ALTOONA, Pa. – Junior Defenseman Tori DeVere (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored her first collegiate goal to kickstart the Presidents offense in 3-1 win over Penn State Altoona Sunday afternoon.

Penn State Altoona would start off strong, firing off their first two shots and claiming the first corner kick of the game all before the first ten minutes had been played. Following the quick offensive start, W&J regained possession launching five shots with no luck. The sixth consecutive shot would meet its mark as DeVere put the ball past the Lions goalie at the 20:54 mark following a corner kick, giving the Presidents a 1-0 leg up.

Maura Heberle (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver) would be the next to find the back of the net off of a pass from Kendall Obley (Buena Vista, Pa./McKeesport) in the 36th minute for her second goal of the season. The goal put the Red & Black up 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Lions would once again start off strong offensively in the second half putting up the first four consecutive shots with the fifth sneaking past starting goalie Kalea Umali (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) to fend off the looming shutout and set the score at 2-1.

Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa. / Burgettstown) would take over after 54:42 of play for the remainder of the game.

Camille Smith (Canton, Ohio/Lake) would find the foot of Skylar Bibbee (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) to assist what would be the final goal of the game at the 68:07 mark, making the final score 3-1.

The Presidents outshot the Lions 16-12 (8-5 on goal) and held the margin in corner kicks 4-2.

Umali racked up four saves in the match for W&J.

The Presidents face off against Pitt-Greensburg next at Alexandre Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 21). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
