WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College Women's Soccer team fell to the visiting University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Bobcats after an early goal secured the 1-0 win for the Bobcats.
The loss lowers the Presidents to a 3-3-1 overall record while UPG improves to a 4-1-3 overall record with neither team having a conference matchup played.
The Bobcats scored on one of just two shots in first quarter. The goal came in the 14th minute of play, but the visitors were unable to find the net for the rest of the contest as the defense was solid all throughout the second half as UPG was limited to just four shots in the second 45 minutes of play.
Senior Courtney Actis (Bechtelsville, Pa./ Boyertown Area) and junior Tori DeVere (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) were solid defensively throughout the game for the Red & Black.
Despite W&J holding the shot advantage in both halves of play recording eight shots in the first half followed by 12 shots in the second half, the Presidents were unable to net a goal of their own in the outing.
Sydney Hoover (Lancaster, Pa./ Manheim Township) led the team offensively, registering the team high in shots and shots on goal with three on target and eight attempts in total. Kendall Obley (Buena Vista, Pa./ McKeesport) followed up with three shots for the Presidents.
Sophomore Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./ Burgettstown) was the sole goalkeeper of the game for W&J, registering all 90 minutes in the net for the Presidents. Schoch made three saves in the outing.
W&J returns home on Wednesday (Sept. 25) to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play. The Presidents will host Geneva College. The scheduled start time is 5:30 PM.
