Women’s Soccer Snags Victory in First Conference matchup of the Season, 2-1

WASHINGTON Pa. – Washington & Jefferson Women's Soccer downs Geneva in its first Presidents' Athletic Conference appearance on Wednesday (Sept. 25), at Alexandre Stadium.

The win propels W&J to an overall record of 4-3-1 with a 1-0 mark in conference play. Geneva now drops to 0-1 in PAC with an overall record of 1-6-1.

Two early goals and strong defense allowed W&J to outlast the Golden Tornadoes in the 90 minutes of play.

Audrey Chapman (Elkins Park, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) netted the first goal for the Presidents and her second of the season in the 17th minute of play.

Kendall Obley (Buena Vista, Pa./McKeesport) found the back of the net next with just 4:37 left in the half to set the score at 2-0 heading into the half.

W&J put up nine shots in the second half but did not end up registering another goal in the contest.

Geneva made a valiant comeback attempt finding a score of their own in the 59th minute and nearly forcing a draw late in the outing. Junior defender Tori DeVere (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) prevented the tying tally with a quick burst as she raced a Geneva player to a ball that had gotten past the goalie and in front of an open net, to kick the ball out of play.

W&J held the advantage in shots 21-12 (6-3 on goal) and Geneva held the edge in corner kicks, 7-1.

Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./ Burgettstown) put in all 90 minutes of work for the Red & Black recording two saves on the day.

The Presidents return to action next on Friday (Sept. 27) at 6:00 p.m. for their matchup against Denison at Alexandre Stadium for the opening of Homecoming weekend.
