WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Men's Soccer team routed the La Roche Redhawks in a non-conference matchup this evening. W&J has won six-straight meetings against La Roche dating back to the 2015 season.
The 4-1 triumph boosts the Presidents to a 3-3 overall record as the Redhawks descend to a 0-5-1 overall record.
Sophomore midfielder Jimmy Gogol (Westminster, Md./Westminster) scored two of the Presidents four goals in the evening action.
In the first half, 28 minutes of play passed before the first goal was tallied for either team. At the 28:09 mark, Logen Mackey (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) found the back of the net off a pass from Gogol for the first W&J goal of the outing.
Four minutes later, senior Antonio Romero (Bowie, Md./Bowie) notched the next score off an assist from junior Ethan Bowser (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) at the 32:03 mark to set the score at 2-0, in favor of the Presidents heading into the second half.
Both teams tallied three shots apiece before the next goal was registered. Gogol scored in the 56th and 68th minutes of play. His first goal was unassisted and perfectly placed to the top right corner of the net from above the penalty box. His second goal was from inside the box, aided by an assist from sophomore Tavan Schoenberger (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown).
La Roche found the back of the net once in the 86th minute of the contest to stave off the looming shutout and end the game with a final score of 4-1.
The Presidents held the advantage in shots 21-10 (8-6 on goal) and corner kicks 12-6.
Charles Boldosser (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) logged time in goal for the first half of play and recorded three saves for the Presidents. Graeme Ewart (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) charted the final 45 minutes of play and fended off two shots of from the competitor.
W&J travels next to Cresson, Pa. for another non-conference matchup against Mount Aloysius on Saturday (Sept. 21). The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
