Presidents Scoop Third Conference Win Against Golden Tornadoes

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team played to a 6-1 win over Geneva this evening.

Back in the win column, the Presidents move to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

The Presidents took the doubles team point following a 2-1 match distribution. Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) secured the Presidents first victory at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 victory. After dropping No. 2 doubles, W&J rebounded with a team-point clinching No. 3 doubles win courtesy of Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna High School), taking a 7-6 (7-2) tiebreaking win.

W&J nearly swept the singles matches, only dropping No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Loomis took a highly contested 7-5, 6-4 victory. Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) logged her first win of the day at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Cole recorded a back-and-forth superbreaker win at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Humphrey picked up the Presidents fifth win of the day at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Wrapping W&J's success on the courts was Mackenzie Gumto (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch High School), who took a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 6 singles.

The Presidents remain home next Tuesday (Oct. 1) to host the visiting Grove City Wolverines. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
