Bowser Penalty Goal Not Enough in Homecoming Loss to Oberlin

WASHINGTON, Pa. – A second half offensive surge boost Oberlin over the Washington & Jefferson Men's Soccer team in nonconference play Saturday evening during homecoming weekend, 3-1.

The loss lowers the Presidents to a 3-5-1 overall record with a 0-0-1 mark in conference play. Oberlin moves to a 4-5-1 overall record.

The Presidents and Yeomen entered the break knotted at zero.

All of the scoring would come in the final half of play. The first tally was marked by Oberlin at the 51:22 mark. Oberlin followed up with another strike at 78:04 on the rebound from a saved penalty kick.

Ethan Bowser (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) responded with a score on a penalty kick in the same minute at 78:44 to lessen the gap, 2-1.

Though Bowsers' goal seemed to rally the Presidents, Oberlin put the game away in the 88th minute of play by netting another goal to extend their lead to 3-1.

Bowser led the offense on the day registering two shots on goal. Justin Parker Wyatt (Coatesville, Pa./Unionville) followed behind with two shots and one on goal.

W&J travels next to take on Franciscan University at 7 p.m. in Steubenville, Ohio on Tuesday (Oct. 1) for their second conference matchup of the season.
