Women’s Tennis Picks Up First Win in Season Opener Against Penn State Altoona

WASHINGTON Pa. – The Washington and Jefferson College women's tennis team took their first victory in their season opener against nonconference foe Penn State Altoona, 6-1.
 
Nidhi Pulicherla (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) and Claire Loomis kicked things off with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, taking the bout 6-2. The tandem of Pooja Potluri (West Fargo, N.D. / West Fargo) and Paisley Cole (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna High School) took a dominant win at No. 2 doubles, 6-1. The Lions quickly flipped the script on the Presidents at No. 3 doubles, beating W&J's own Emma Humphrey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Jaelyn Kennedy (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), 6-2.
 
The Presidents swept the singles matches to close out the meeting. Pulicherla Started things off with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. Loomis followed up with another straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Kennedy posted one of the best victories for the Presidents on the evening with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
 
Cole capped off W&J's wins with a back-and-fourth match with Abigail Morgan of Penn State Altoona. Morgan took the first set 6-3 but was matched in the second set by Cole who would record a 6-2 win to knot the set score a one. In the super-breaker, Cole would take the bout with a score of 10-5.
 
The Presidents will travel to Baldwin Wallace for their next match on Saturday, September 7th at 1 p.m.
