Men’s Tennis Swept in Season Opener at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College Men's Tennis team opened their 2024 season with a 7-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace.

The Presidents saw the most production from their doubles units against the stout Balwin Wallace team. Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) played the Presidents most competitive bout of the afternoon after falling 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. The remaining doubles matches both finished with an end score of 6-1 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

In singles, W&J saw little to no momentum as Baldwin Wallace ensured six straight set victories. Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) made the Presidents best push for their first win of the season. Simms battled with Tyler Fenton of the Yellow Jackets at No. 6 Singles but ultimately was downed, 6-1, 6-2.

The Presidents will continue their fall slate when they travel to Cresson, Pa. to face off with Mount Aloysius on Sunday (Sept. 8). First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
