NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington and Jefferson College men's tennis team bounced back from their Saturday loss by nearly sweeping the Mounties, 6-1
W&J two of the three in the doubles matches, garnering their first team point of the match.
Srivatsa Bellamkonda (North Allegheny) and
Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) led the charge with a 6-1 win at No.2 doubles.
Mitch Kenney (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) ensured the Presidents victory with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Presidents swept the singles matches to close out the competition.
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) logged the team's first win of the day at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 outcome. Yarramaneni posted a tight win at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory.
Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) took set one with a score of 6-1 and capped off his meeting at No. 4 singles with a straight set win, 6-0. Bellamkonda played to a competitive 6-3, 6-4 bout at No. 5 singles to record the Presidents fifth win of the day. Kenney wrapped the match with W&J's sixth and final win of the afternoon at No. 6 singles, winning 6-1 in each set.
The Presidents will be granted a pause before returning to the courts to host Division II West Liberty for their next match on Thursday (Oct. 3).
