W&J Football Lands No. 24 on Final AFCA Coaches Poll

WACO, Texas – The Washington & Jefferson College Football claimed the No. 24 rank in the nation on the American Football Coaches Association Coaches Poll, announced by the organization Monday (Jan. 6).

W&J last finished in the top 25 on the final AFCA Coaches Poll following the 2018 season. That year, the Presidents finished with a 9-2 record and finished No. 22.

In this season's final poll, W&J shifted down six spots since suffering their second-round loss to Randolph-Macon (38-22) but remained one of three Presidents' Athletic Conference institutions in the top 25.

The Presidents' capped the year with a 9-2 (9-1 PAC) record on the season. The team added its 27th Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship after sealing the conference title with a win over Allegheny in the final bout of the regular season. The Presidents earned their 27th trip to the postseason through the conference's Pool-A (automatic) bid.

W&J racked up countless accolades including nearly sweeping the All-PAC awards with Jacob Pugh (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and Dawson Dietz (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) winning offensive and defensive player of the year honors. Head coach Mike Sirianni also picked up his eighth PAC Coach of the Year honor, coaching 16 Presidents to All-PAC honors.
