WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team (8-1, 4-1) defeated the Westminster Titans (3-7, 2-6) in a 6-1 midweek match. The Presidents 8-1 start to this season has tied the best start for the program since 2015.
W&J got out to an early lead by sweeping in doubles play, 1-0.
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and
Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) took No. 1 doubles 6-1. The freshman tandem of
Bella Graham (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) and
Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) bested the Titans, 6-2.
The Presidents posted five singles victories to close out the team win, 6-1. Loomis won her No. 1 singles 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Moorhead made quick work at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Hamade remained flawless with her ninth win on the season at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2.
Women's tennis returns to the court this Saturday (Oct. 4) to face off with the Grove City Wolverines. Doubles matches will begin at 1:00 p.m., and singles matches will follow afterwards.
