WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (9-7, 4-1) bested the visiting Chatham Cougars (9-3, 4-1) in a 3-1 victory (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17). Both units remain atop the Presidents' Athletic Conference South Division with a 4-1 conference standing.
Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) continued her impressive freshman season, powering the Presidents offense for a third consecutive game. Dagen finished the night with a team-high 15 kills and four service aces.
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) ended the evening with 11 kills.
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 38 assists. Freshman
Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the team with five total blocks. Three Presidents finished with double figure digs including
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy),
Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Moorhouse.
The Presidents opened the first set with a 25-18 victory. Down 17-16 in the opener,
Stella Stossel (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) sparked a six-point run to catapult the Presidents to a 22-17 lead. A three-point run closed out the first set win, bookended by a kill by Jacobs.
Following a dropped second set, the Presidents powered their way back to a crucial set three victory to go up 2-1. An early 8-4 lead from the Presidents was maintained for the remainder of the third set. Chatham compiled four kills in the final six points before Fetsko slammed the door, 25-18.
W&J grew another early lead in the fourth set, 6-3, which featured kills from Fetsko and Dagen. Holding the lead down the stretch of the looming final set, the Presidents closed out the match with a six-point run. The scoring spree was capped by a Dagen ace and Fetsko kill, 25-17.
W&J returns to the volleyball court this Saturday (Oct. 4) to face the Westminster Titans. First serve is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
