BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (9-8, 4-2) was swept by the Westminster Titans (11-7, 3-3) in a competitive Saturday evening match, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 27-25).
Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the Presidents' offense from the interior with nine kills and two total blocks.
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) also added eight kills to her totals, slowly climbing to the 1,000-kill mark.
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 23 assists. Moorhouse and
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) each had 10 or more digs on the outing.
W&J opened the first set with an early 6-4 lead following a five-point run sparked by a
Stella Stossel (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) kill. Despite the Titans best efforts, W&J continued to grow the lead to 15-11. At a 19 all tie, Westminster ran away with the opening set following a six-point run.
The Presidents opened the second set with a slight edge through the opening portion, holding a 16-14 advantage. The Titans jumped into action late in the second set again as kills by Jacobs and Fetsko couldn't keep the Presidents alive, 25-21.
The Titans held a 14-10 lead in the third set before
Anna Boikov (Wilmore, Ky./West Jessamine) added two kills to boost the W&J offense momentarily. Moorhouse added two skip set kills to propel the Presidents to a 20-18 lead. Kills by Stossel and Boikov gave the Presidents a 25-24 advantage before the Titans closed out the match with three consecutive points, 27-25.
W&J women's volleyball returns to action on the road on Tuesday (Oct. 7) to take on the Franciscan Barons. Opening serve is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start.
