Fetsko Surpasses 1,000 Kills as Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Saint Vincent

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College volleyball team (11-9, 6-3) swept the visiting Saint Vincent Bearcats (5-10, 4-5) in a 3-0 decision (25-23, 25-18, 26-24).

With 18 kills on the night, Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) has now become the third player in the rally scoring era to surpass 1,000 career kills. Fetsko now has 1,007 career kills. She also surpassed 900 career digs with 13 on the night.

Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) also finished in double figure kills. Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 39 assists. Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy), Fetsko and Moorhouse all had double figure digs.

In the opening set, Jacobs sparked a seven-point run to give the Presidents a 19-11 advantage. The Bearcats battled back to bring the game within one point before the W&J closed out the set, 25-23.

W&J got out of the gates fast in the second set, with a 19-12 lead. Kills by Dagen and Jacobs down the stretch capped the strong second set victory, 25-18.

Both units competed in a third set thriller with neither side gaining a large edge. Fetsko had consecutive kills followed by a Moorhouse service ace to put the Presidents up 20-17. Saint Vincent fought back to knot the score at 24. A kill from Jacobs and attack error from the Bearcats helped W&J secure it's second sweep of Saint Vincent on the season, 26-24 in the third set.

Women's Volleyball returns to action on Friday (Oct. 17) as they face the Allegheny Gators on the road. Opening serve is set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
