Women’s Volleyball Downed by Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (11-10,6-4) was swept by the Allegheny Gators (12-9,6-4) in a Friday night road Presidents' Athletic Conference match, 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-16).

Cali Dagen (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led the Presidents offensively with eight kills on the night. Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) and Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) each had five kills and two total blocks. Fetsko also led in digs with 15.

Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) led the setting room with 23 assists. Fetsko and Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had one service ace each.

The Gators built an early 18-12 lead in the first set. Kills by Dagen and Stella Stossel (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) brought the Allegheny lead down to six before the opposition closed out the opening set with a kill, 25-18.

Allegheny jumped out to another lead in the second set, 6-3 before the Presidents battled back. A three-point run of attack errors from the Gators helped W&J knot the score at nine. Moments later in the set, Allegheny answered with a six-point run to grow a 19-11 lead. Despite kills from Dagen down the stretch, the Gators closed the set with a five-point run.

Allegheny grew a 8-2 lead in the third set and never looked back to complete the sweep, 25-16. In each of the first and third sets, W&J hit 0.143 as a team.

The Presidents return to the court next Wednesday (Oct. 22) on the road to battle the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Opening serve is set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
