WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball (12-10,7-4) won three straight sets against the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (2-20,0-11) to win their seventh conference match, 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-11).
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) had a dominant night leading the team with 13 kills, 14 digs and two solo blocks. Fetsko hit a .242 mark on attacks.
Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) also reached double figure kills with 10 with a .381 hitting percentage.
Isabella Bottiglieri (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and
Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) each led the team with three service aces. Bottiglieri and
Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) each led the team in assists with 17.
The Presidents got off to a rocky start in the first set, dropping the close opener 25-22. A kill by Jacobs and solo block from Fetsko brought the Yellow Jackets lead to 22-21 before Waynesburg closed out the first set.
The Presidents responded in the second set with an early 8-5 lead. Back-to-back service aces from Bottiglieri highlighted the start. Up 19-13 off consecutive kills from Fetsko, Waynesburg made things interesting with a five-point run to bring the W&J lead to one. W&J escaped the second set as the Yellow Jackets had four errors to close out the set, 25-20.
Following a back and forth start to the third set, the Presidents used a Yellow Jackets service error to spark an 18-10 lead. Fetsko, Jacobs and
Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) had kills down the stretch as W&J took the third set to take a 2-1 lead.
W&J coasted in set four, creating an early 13-4 lead. Three straight kills from Jacobs following a Yellow Jackets service error capped the run. A kill by Oldham and service ace by Sirianni closed out the fourth set win, 25-11.
W&J returns to action this Saturday (Oct. 25) as the team hosts the W&J Tri-Match, featuring the Hiram Terriers and the Wilmington Quakers. The matches will also double as the team's senior recognition day. The Presidents first game of the tri against Hiram is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
