MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's tennis team (10-4, 5-4) was defeated 4-0 by the No. 1 seeded Allegheny Gators (11-0, 9-0) in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals.
W&J put up a fight throughout the contest. Although the Gators took the doubles point, the No. 1 doubles match was only a one break loss. Sophomore
Mackenzie Gumto (Renfrew, Pa./Knoch) and Freshman
Austyn Paugh (Jane Lew, W.Va./Notre Dame) were leading 4-3 at No. 3 doubles before the match was abandoned.
The Presidents continued to put up a fight in singles. The first set in three of the six singles matches were decided by only one break against a strong Gators lineup. This season marked the Presidents' first 10-win season since 2019 and their first PAC tournament win since the 2020-21 season.
This year's freshmen class made an instant impact on the youthful women's tennis team this season.
Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) finished the season with a 12-1 record at the No. 4 position.
Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) capped off her rookie season with a 10-3 record at No. 3 singles. At the No. 6 position,
Austyn Paugh (Jane Lew, W.Va./Notre Dame) ended the fall season with a 9-3 record. In doubles, Hamade and
Bella Graham (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) had a 7-2 record in PAC conference play.
