Bowser, Casey Lead Men’s Soccer Past Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer team (7-6-2, 3-4-1) defeated the Thiel Tomcats (3-11-1, 0-7-1) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup.

The Presidents started on the offensive front foot from the beginning of the match. Senior captain Ethan Bowser (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) converted on a penalty kick opportunity in the third minute to give the Presidents the early lead, 1-0. The penalty kick goal was the difference at the half with the shots at 5-4 in favor of the Red & Black.

W&J started to pull away in the second half as the Presidents fired off four shots in the first 20 minutes. Sophomore Zach Casey (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Bowser to give the Presidents a 2-0 advantage. The defensive line held together to preserve the shutout.

Junior Graeme Ewart (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and freshman Logan Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each played one half in the shutout performance. Ewart picked up two saves and Joseph picked up three.

The Presidents look to build off this win when they return home to Alexandre Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 22).  Kickoff against the Bethany Bison will commence at 5:00 p.m.
