Men’s Water Polo Swept on Day Two at the MPSF Regional

ERIE, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team (1-10, 0-5) were swept in the final two matches at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Games against Augustana (11-6, 4-0) and Johns Hopkins (15-4, 4-0).
 
W&J 12, Augustana 21
Each side opened the contest with a four-goal first quarter of action. Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) kicked off the scoring for the Presidents to knot the score at one. Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech) netted the next two goals followed by a Topher Mitchell (Annapolis, Md./Loyola Blakefield) at the 2:18 mark.
 
The Vikings outscored the Presidents in the second quarter 3-2. Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) scored the first goal of the quarter to grant the Presidents a brief lead before Augustana scored three consecutive goals. Hector Santaella (Key Biscayne, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) brought the opposition's lead to one before the half with a goal off an assist from Souder, 7-6.
 
Augustana blew the game open in the second half, outscoring W&J 14-6. Ciro Pro (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita of Cascia), Timothy Deutsch (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), Mitchell and Souder each scored in the final half.
 
W&J 4, Johns Hopkins 14
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Souder netted the first goal of the match for each side, followed by five-straight Johns Hopkins goals.
 
W&J responded in the second quarter by outscoring the opposition, 2-1. Souder and A. Miller each scored in the period before the halftime break to bring the score to 6-3.
 
The second half woes continued for the Presidents as they were outscored 8-1 to close out the matchup. A. Miller scored the final goal for the Presidents.
 
W&J returns to action at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, W. Va. For a four-game weekend starting on Saturday (Oct. 25). The Presidents first match is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start against Salem.
