Field Hockey Edged by Wooster in Double Overtime

WOOSTER, Ohio – A double overtime goal lifted the host Wooster Fighting Scots (3-9, 3-5 NCAC) to a 1-0 victory over the Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team (5-10, 3-6 NCAC) in North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at John Papp Stadium.

Wooster came out strong on Senior Day. The Fighting Scots out-shot the Presidents by a 9-0 margin and recorded all six penalty corners in the first half. W&J was able to fend off those offensive attempts as the game remained scoreless into halftime.

The Presidents fought back in the third quarter. W&J recorded four shots and two penalty corners. The Red and Black put a pair of shots on cage in the final minute of the quarter. Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) and Jessica Nakanishi (Susanville, Calif./Lassen) recorded a shot each after a pair of penalty corners.

Wooster recorded all six shots during the fourth quarter. Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) turned aside all three shots on cage in the final 15 minutes to force overtime.

Giering and Nakanishi registered a shot apiece in each overtime session. Nakanishi had her shot saved on a stroke attempt in fourth minute of the second overtime.  Wooster took the ball the other way and scored the game winner 32 seconds later.

Wooster edged W&J in terms of shots on goal (5-4) and penalty corners (10-8).

Giering finished with four shots while Nakanishi added three shots. Both had two shots on goal. Erhard made four saves in the setback.

W&J wraps up the 2025 season with a non-conference trip to Cedar Crest on Wednesday (Oct. 29). Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m. in Allentown.
