Women’s Soccer Falls to Conference Leading Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson women's soccer team (6-9-2, 3-5-2) fell 7-0 to the Grove City Wolverines (10-4-2, 9-0-1) in the final road Presidents' Athletic Conference match of the regular season.

The Wolverines pulled out to an early lead, scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes. The Presidents tried to answer but could not find the back of the net. W&J had six shots in the first half, four of which were on target and saved. The Wolverines would take a 4-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

W&J fought to cut into the Grove City lead in the second half. The Presidents outshot the Wolverines 14 to 11 and led four to zero on corner kicks. Sophomore Alexa Taylor (Aliquippa, Pa./OLSH) led the team with five shot attempts throughout the contest. The Wolverine defense held strong and extended the lead in the second half to take the win.

Junior goalkeeper Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) played all 90 minutes of this afternoon's match in goal. Schoch made six saves throughout the course of the contest.

The Presidents return to close out the regular season at home on Wednesday (Oct. 29) against Westminster. Kickoff from Alexandre Stadium will be at 5:00 p.m.
