GAMBIER, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey team (3-7, 1-3 NCAC) dropped a 4-0 verdict to host Kenyon College (3-7, 3-0 NCAC) in North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon in Ohio.
Following a scoreless first quarter in which each team recorded a shot apiece, Kenyon picked up the offensive pressure in the second quarter. The Owls recorded all nine shots in the frame including a goal by Maren Lawrence with 31 seconds remaining before halftime.
Kenyon scored twice in the third quarter to add onto its lead. The Owls picked up a second score from Lawrence midway through the frame before a goal just before the end of the quarter made the advantage 3-0 heading into the fourth. Lawrence wrapped up a hat trick by scoring midway through the final quarter.
Kenyon out-shot W&J by a 15-1 margin in shots on goal.
Lily Giering (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) placed the lone shot on goal for the Presidents.
Grace Erhard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) made 11 saves over 60 minutes in front of the cage. This marks the third time this season Erhard finished with double digit saves.
As part of homecoming weekend, W&J welcomes Oberlin College for a conference game on Friday, Oct. 10. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Cameron Stadium.
