MEADVILLE, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson College women's soccer (4-6-2, 1-2-2) was defeated by the Allegheny Gators (3-6-4, 2-1-2), 5-1.
The Gators jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal in the 28
th minute. Despite the early lead, the Presidents stuck with the opposition on the stat sheet. Allegheny held a small edge in shot 8-6 and the advantage in corner kicks with a 6-2 margin.
Allegheny came out of the gates firing on all cylinders with three goals in the span of a little over two minutes of play. W&J netted its first response of the evening in the 78
th minute as the productive junior forward
Maura Heberle (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver) scored her third goal of the year off an assist from freshman defender
Ally Zidek (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area). The Gators added a goal with seven seconds remaining to ensure the victory, 5-1.
Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) played all 90 minutes in goal with seven saves.
Women's soccer returns to action this coming Friday (Oct. 10) to face the Chatham Cougars on the road. Action is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
