WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College women's tennis team (8-3, 4-3) falls to the Allegheny Gators (10-0, 8-0) by a score of 7-0.
The Gators had the advantage from the beginning by getting a sweep in the doubles to go up 1-0. Junior captain
Claire Loomis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman
Keiran Moorhead (Canonsburg, Pa./Peters Township) forced a tight deciding tiebreak to keep the pressure on the Gators at the No. 1 position.
The Presidents put up a fight in singles to extend their matches. Although the matches finished in straight sets, three of the six matches were decided by one break. Loomis and
Maya Hamade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) each battled in their individual matches, dropping their contests 6-3, 6-4.
The Presidents look to regroup when they travel to Waynesburg on Friday (Oct. 10) to close out the regular season. Doubles matches against the Yellow Jackets will begin at 4:00 p.m., and singles matches will follow afterwards.
