Fetsko Surpasses 1,000 Career Digs as W&J Routs Franciscan

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson volleyball team (14-12, 9-5) continued its push for home court advantage in the postseason in their final home regular season Presidents' Athletic Conference showdown with a 3-1 (25-10, 17-25, 25-19, 25-18) victory over the Franciscan Barons (11-11, 7-7).

Senior Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) led the scoring for the Presidents with 18 kills. Defensively, she picked up 16 digs. Fetsko surpassed 1000 career digs tonight, becoming the second player to reach 1,000 career kills and digs. Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) led the team in blocks with three total.

Junior captain Brielle Moorhouse (East Liberty, Ohio/Benjamin Logan) set up 37 assists and senior libero Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy) added 22 digs. Sydney Allen (Washington, Pa./Trinity) picked up 19 digs throughout the contest.

The Presidents got off to a hot start with an 8-0 run to start the match. W&J did not slow down and extended their advantage to take the opening set 25-10. Freshman Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) picked up an ace in the closing run. The Presidents hit .444 in the first set with no errors and 16 kills.

W&J continued their offensive run to take a 6-1 lead to start the second set. Freshman Allen picked up the first of her two aces during the run. Franciscan did not go away that easily and evened the score at 10. Each team traded 5-0 runs before the Barons put together one final offensive push to take the set 25-17.

The third set started similar to the second as the Presidents opened up with a 5-2 lead. The Barons battled to even the set at 17, but W&J concluded the third frame on a 8-2 run to go up, 2-1.

W&J opened up the fourth set with a 13-10 advantage. W&J went on a serving run by freshman Lola Jacobs (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) to grow a 19-13 lead and did not look back. Jacobs went on to have 13 kills throughout the match. The Presidents took the fourth set 25-18 to close out the contest.
