WASHINGTON, Pa.- The Washington & Jefferson College women's volleyball team (16-12, 11-5) swept the Chatham Cougars (16-8, 11-5) Saturday afternoon, 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-19). The win put the Presidents in sole possession of the No. 1 seed in the South Division in this year's Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament.
The W&J offense continued its tear, with four players accumulating six or more kills.
Faith Fetsko (Venetia, Pa./South Park) and
Abby Oldham (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) tallied eight kills each, which was tied for the game high. Fetsko also contributed on defense, digging out 16 Cougar attacks, alongside senior libero
Piper McFarland (West Mifflin, Pa./Cornerstone Preparatory Academy), who amassed 20 digs of her own.
The Presidents and Cougars found themselves knotted up at 12 points each at the midway point of the first set, but that didn't last long. W&J closed the set by winning 13 of the final 14 points, using momentum generated by a duo of experienced outside hitters. Fetsko and
Beyoncè Pierce (Parkersburg, W.Va. / Parkersburg) each recorded four kills, while the Presidents turned in an impressive .245 team hitting percentage in the opening set.
The second set was a back-and-forth battle featuring six ties, four lead changes, and 10 errors by each team. Late in the period, the squads were tied again, this time at 23. Chatham committed two errors on the final two plays of the set allowing the Presidents to pull away and secure the victory second set.
To close out the match, W&J took care of business defeating Cougars 25-19 in the final set. The Presidents maintained solid control of the set, holding a five-point lead three different times. A solid effort from the Red & Black, in the latter portion of the set, allowed W&J to secure the sweep. A service ace from
Jordan Sirianni (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell), her second of the game and 42nd of the year, gave the Presidents their 25th point of the set.
The triumph marks W&J's first win over the Cougars at the Chatham Athletic & Fitness Center since September 2018.
The Presidents finish the league schedule with an 11-5 record, their best finish in the PAC since 2018. Though W&J and Chatham have an identical conference record, the Presidents have the head-to-head advantage, with a 2-0 record this year against the Cougars. W&J's win Saturday gives the Presidents their first regular season sweep of the Cougars in seven years.
W&J's efforts in 2025 resulted in them claiming the top seed in the south division for the PAC tournament. This season will mark the third time that W&J will have reached the conference postseason under fourth-year head coach
Lindsey Llewellyn.
W&J is set to host their PAC Quarterfinals match in the Salvitti Family Gymnasium on Tuesday (Nov. 11) against the No. 4 seed from the PAC North Division, Grove City College. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
