Men’s Water Polo Drops Opening Matches at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team (1-16) droped the opening two matches at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Games hosted by Wheaton (Mass.) to Austin (6-7) and No. 2 ranked Johns Hopkins (16-5).
 
Washington & Jefferson 8, Austin 22
The two teams traded goals to begin the match. The Miller brothers scored the Presidents' three goals in the opening period. Senior captain Aidan Miller (Grove City, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) scored two goals off assists from sophomore Ciro Pro (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita of Cascia) and freshman Topher Mitchell (Annapolis, Md./Loyola Blakefield).
 
The Roos pulled ahead in the second period, outscoring the Presidents 5-1. Sophomore Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had the lone goal for W&J in the quarter on a man-up advantage.
 
The Roos continued to expand their advantage in the final two periods. Austin outscored W&J 7-3 in the third period and 6-1 in the fourth. Souder and A. Miller each scored penalty shot goals in the third. Sophomore Joseph Aranda (Albuquerque, N.M./Menaul School) got himself on the scoresheet from an assist by classmate Parker Elliott (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen). Sophomore Hector Santaella (Key Biscayne, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) scored the lone goal for the Presidents in the fourth quarter.
 
 Washington & Jefferson 4, Johns Hopkins 26
Johns Hopkins rolled past the Presients, flashing the No. 2 rank in Division III. In the first two periods, the Blue Jays outscored the Presidents 6-2. Junior Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech) opened the scoring for W&J, and A. Miller got the other goal in the period from an assist by Pro. The pair scored again in the second period from assists by Pro and Mitchell.
 
The Blue Jays held W&J scoreless in the final two periods to take the win.
 
The Presidents look to regroup for their final match in Norton when they play the No. 9 Division III ranked program, Augustana (12-6). The match from Wheaton College will begin at 9:30 a.m.
