NORTON, Mass. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's water polo team (1-17, 0-8) dropped its final Mountain Pacific Sports Federation regular season match by the Augustana Vikings (14-7, 7-1), 16-9.
In their second meeting of the season, the Vikings gained an early edge in the first quarter of action, 3-2.
Hector Santaella (Key Biscayne, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) got the ball rolling for the Presidents, scoring netting goals at the 6:33 and 36 second marks.
Santaella kicked off the scoring for each side in the second quarter to knot the score at three with 5:36 remaining in the half.
Dillon Parker (Nipomo, Calif./Central Coast New Tech) and
Brody Souder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored in the quarter. The Vikings netted two goals within the final minute of the half to enter the break, up 6-5.
Augustana ran away with the match in the third quarter, outscoring W&J 3-1 in the period.
Topher Mitchell (Annapolis, Md./Loyola Blakefield) was the sole Presidents only scorer.
Santaella, Mitchell and Parker notched markers in the fourth quarter for W&J but were outshined by six goals from the opposition.
The Presidents return to the pool for the MPSF Championships in Stanford, Calif. on Friday (Nov. 21).
