Men’s Lacrosse Drops First Road Contest to Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team was upended in their first road showing of the 2025 season against the Marietta Pioneers, 17-3.
 
The Presidents pick up their first loss of the season, dropping to 1-1 on the season.
 
Fifth year Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the President offensively with a scoring surge in the third quarter with two goals. Colin Golebiewski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) also added his first goal of the season. Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) took a facilitating role after his four-goal performance against Pitt-Bradford, dishing two assists and picking up two ground balls.
 
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and Golebiewski handled the face off efforts for W&J. Petrarco went 6-for-13 on face off opportunities with seven ground balls. He also added an assist and two caused turnovers to his totals. Golebiewski went 3-for-10 on face off opportunities with two ground balls.
 
The Pioneers got to work on the offensive end early and often scoring five goals in the first quarter of play. Petrarco helped bring the Presidents some momentum with a face off victory and ground ball after the first goal of the game but to no avail.
 
Marietta added eight additional goals in the second quarter of play, building a 13-0 lead prior to the end of the first half. W&J again tried to build some early momentum with two face off victories by Golebiewski.
 
After going down 16-0, the Presidents their first successful offensive possession of the matchup in the third as Shook found Mey for W&J's first goal of the contest. Less than a minute later, Shook found Mey again for another score, down 16-2 with 4:37 remaining in the third quarter.
 
Carrying their offensive momentum into the fourth quarter of regulation, an extra-man opportunity gifted to the Presidents allowed Petrarco to find Golebiewski for his first goal of the season. Despite the late scoring from the Presidents, the Pioneers stayed the course for a 17-3 victory.
 
Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) got the start in goal for W&J and picked up his first loss of the season with 10 saves. Noah Bracco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) played 37:13 minutes after entering in the second quarter, racking up nine saves.
 
W&J remains on their three-game road stint, traveling to Hiram next on Saturday (Feb. 22). First face off is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
