NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College wrestling team cruised to a 47-4 victory over nonconference foe, Muskingum in a midweek contest.
The Presidents elevate their dual record to 6-7 overall while the Fighting Muskies fall to 0-14 on the season.
W&J collected six forfeit victories on the docket to apply a 36-point advantage in favor of the Presidents.
Only two wrestlers competed for their victories, starting with
Zane Garner (Washington, Pa./Trinity) at 141 pounds. Gardner picked up his first dual victory of the season over Rushi Pata of Muskingum by tech fall (21-4) to put the Presidents up 11-0.
Taylor Smith (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) also picked up a dominant victory over at 157 pounds. Smith defeated Zeke Poulos of Muskingum by tech fall (20-5) to grow the W&J lead to 23-0.
The sole loss on the night came at the 285-heavyweight class.
Trevor Manley ( lost by major decision (11-0) against Scotty Edwards of Muskingum to close out the match.
W&J returns to the mats this Saturday (Feb. 8) to compete in the 38
th Annual John Summa Invitational. Brackets are set to kickoff at 10:00 a.m.
