MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- For a third-straight season, Washington & Jefferson College junior guard/forward
Meghan Dryburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) earned a spot on the D3hoops.com All-Region 7 Third Team. The organization announced All-Region teams and award recipients for each of the 10 regions on Tuesday (March 18).
Â
Dryburgh finishes her career as a four-time All-Presidents' Athletic Conference honoree. A two-time league player of the year, she claims a spot on the All-PAC First Team for a third-straight season. This season, Dryburgh ranked first in rebounding (12.3 per game), ranks fourth in assists (3.3 per game), third in blocks (39) and ninth in steals (49) among conference players in the regular season.
Â
Dryburgh has put herself in the conversation as one of the top all-around players in W&J women's basketball history. Dryburgh enters the NCAA Tournament as one of two players in program history to record both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career. Dryburgh's 333 rebounds in the regular season, which ranked as the ninth most in D-III, established a new single-season program record.
Â
Dryburgh finished her career with 1,167 points, 1,198 rebounds, 362 assists, 224 steals and 128 blocks. She recently earned a spot on the PAC All-Tournament Team.
Â
The Presidents finished the season with a 24-5 overall record. The loss concludes a fantastic four-year run for the Presidents' senior class. The group wraps up as W&J's all-time winningest class with 94 wins. The group helped W&J achieve history on Friday (March 7) when the Red and Black downed 23rd ranked Messiah University by a 76-72 score in overtime. The victory was the first for the program in the NCAA Tournament. The 24 wins also equals the single season high for the program.
Â
Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were each contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 789 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to a number of SIDs, as well as D3hoops.com staff and contributors, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
Â
It's the 24th season D3hoops.com has named All-Region teams.
Â
Division III basketball is organized into 10 regions. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a first and second team. This reorganization results in approximately 10 additional players being recognized when compared to full seasons in the old eight-region alignment.
Â
Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams. The teams will be released March 22, at the national championship game.
