WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse dropped a nonconference contest to the visiting Trine Thunder, 14-2.
W&J slips to 3-5 on the season while Trine moves to 8-1 on the season.
The Presidents two goals came off the sticks of
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and
Sean McCaffrey (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein).
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) dished the sole assist on the afternoon.
Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield),
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and Thomes Stoves (New Stanton, Pa./Hempfield Area) each picked up three caused turnovers.
Noah Bracco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) and
Anthony DeLuca (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) led the team in groundballs with five and four respectively.
Following a scoreless first quarter from the Presidents, W&J mustered their first score of the half to open the second quarter. Shook found Mey on a man-up opportunity to chip away at the Thunder lead, 3-1. Trine scored five goals to close out the half to take a 8-1 lead into the break.
W&J remained scoreless until the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. With 7:28 left in regulation, McCaffrey ripped a long-range unassisted goal to close the scoring out for each side at 14-2.
Bracco logged all 60 minutes in goal for the Presidents, saving 18 shots in his second loss of the season.
The Presidents return to action this coming Wednesday (March 26) to host the visiting La Roche Redhawks. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
