Men’s Lacrosse Glides Past Redhawks, 22-1

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team coasted to a 22-1 victory over the La Roche Redhawks Wednesday evening.

Zack Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the offense, registering a double hat trick with six goals and one assist. Sean McCaffrey (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) and Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) also racked up hat tricks on the night with four and three goals, respectively. Shook led the team in points, adding five assists to his offensive numbers.

Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin), Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Anthony DeLuca (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) held down the defensive end with three caused turnovers each. Logan Waychoff (Washington, Pa./Trinity) led the team with 10 ground balls.

W&J had a slow offensive start as they headed into the second quarter with a 3-1 lead before adding eight more to end the first half ahead 11-1. The Presidents held the RedHawks scoreless for the remainder of the game while tallying 11 more goals over the final two quarters.

11 of the Presidents 22 goals were assisted in the contest. Nine different players registered a score in the team's offensive efforts. W&J held lopsided advantages in shots (78-11), ground balls (54-20) and face-off wins (18-7).

John Novoselich (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y./James I. Oneill) picked up his first-career victory in goal for W&J with five saves on the evening.

W&J travels to Chatham for their next conference tilt on Saturday (March. 29). Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
