WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson college men's tennis team picked up their second-consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over the visiting Westminster Titans, 4-3.
W&J now moves to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in conference matches. Westminster slides to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in PAC play.
Westminster jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after scooping the doubles team point.
Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) and
Srivatsa Bellamkonda (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) picked up the sole win at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 victory.
W&J bounced back in singles play, winning four of its six matches in individual play.
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) bested his opponent at No. 2 singles with a win in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) followed suite with a victory at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-0) to give the Presidents a 2-0 lead.
Bellamkonda then took his No. 5 singles match by a score of 6-3, 6-2 to put W&J in prime position to collect their second conference victory of the season.
Aarav Surapaneni (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) locked in the win at No. 6 singles with a win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
W&J looks to keep it's hot streak in conference play rolling as they host Waynesburg Thursday (March 27) at the Janet Swanson Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
