DELAWARE, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-8 loss at Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play Saturday afternoon at Selby Stadium in Central Ohio.
The loss drops the Presidents to 1-2 overall on the season. The Battling Bishops improve to 4-2 in 2025.
Junior midfield/attack
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) paced the Presidents' efforts across the stat sheet. Bogats finished with four goals and six draw controls. During the contest, Bogats recorded her 100th career point, becoming the 16th player in program history to reach the milestone.
Sophomore midfielder
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg) finished with team highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (3).
Sophomore goalkeeper
Megan Brackney (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) made a career-high 12 saves over the 60 minutes in net.
OWU led by a 5-1 margin after the first quarter before building a 9-2 lead at halftime. The Presidents outpaced the Battling Bishops by a 9-4 margin in draw controls during the first half. However, turnovers plagued the Presidents, as the Red and Black committed 12 to just five for OWU in the first half.
The two teams played through a lower scoring third quarter. The Presidents tallied two of the three goals during the frame.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) both scored in the third.
Bogats scored twice in the fourth while
Shelby Blanford (Odenton, Md./Arundel) and Holland each found the back of the net once. The Battling Bishops outscored the Presidents by a 6-4 margin in the fourth, which ended up being the highest scoring quarter of the game.
OWU held a 39-23 advantage in shots and a 28-16 margin in shots on goal. W&J held a narrow 14-13 advantage in draw controls. The Battling Bishops put together a 22-16 lead in ground balls.
W&J heads east to face Immaculata University on Monday (March 10). Start time is scheduled for 5 p.m. start.
