GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson college men's tennis team (7-8, 4-2) dropped a 7-0 decision to the Grove City Wolverines (8-3, 5-1) on the road.
The Wolverines picked up the first team point of the contest, sweeping doubles play.
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and
Alex Duing (South Park, Pa./South Park) put up W&J's best fight at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-3.
The Presidents were also winless in individual play.
Srivatsa Bellamkonda (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) competed in the best match in singles play for W&J at No. 4 singles. Bellamkonda dropped a close first set 7-6 (7-4), then bounced back with a 6-4 set two victory. His opponent took the super-breaker 1-0 (10-5).
Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) also dropped a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) match at No. 3 singles.
W&J returns to the Janet Swanson Tennis Center Monday (April 14) to face the Saint Vincent Bearcats. Doubles play is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
