WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (7-9, 4-3) dropped a 5-2 Presidents Athletic Conference match to the Saint Vincent Bearcats (15-4, 5-3) Monday evening.
The Bearcats snagged the first team point of the afternoon through doubles play to take a 1-0 lead.
Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and
Aarav Surapaneni (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) picked up the sole win for the Presidents at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 victory.
The Bearcats took four of the six individual matches to close their 5-2 victory over the Presidents.
Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) took his No. 3 singles match in three sets. Yarramaneni lost a tie-breaking first set but bounced back with a 6-4 set two victory and a 10-8 win in the super-breaking third set.
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) added another singles win to his seasons total at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-1. W&J managed to compete in close matches at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles but ultimately fell short to suffer a 5-2 loss.
W&J takes a brief pause in conference play to square off with Pitt-Greensburg, Tuesday (April 15). Doubles play is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
