Men’s Tennis Blanks Pitt-Greensburg

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team (8-9) swept the visiting Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats (1-12) Wednesday afternoon.
 
W&J won the first team point of the day in partnered play, 1-0. Jackson Akers (Logan, W. Va./Logan) and Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) took a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Ahbinav Yarramaneni and Jackson Sandor (Apollo, Pa./The Kiski School) won their No. 2 doubles match 6-0 to clinch the team point.
 
The Presidents completed their sweep in individual play, netting all available team points for the 7-0 victory. Akers played a won a close No. 1 singles match 6-2, 7-6 (7-0). Yarramaneni, Connor Simms (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) and Mitch Kenney (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) all swept their opponents in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Aarav Surapaneni (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) picked up the win at No. 6 singles through a forfeit to close out the sweep.
 
W&J returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Thursday (April 17) to face Allegheny. The road contest is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
