ANDERSON, Ind. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team (5-8) dropped a nonconference game to the Anderson Ravens (1-10) Saturday afternoon.
Captain
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) led the Presidents offensively with four goals on the afternoon. Mey also dished two assists for a team-high six points.
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) racked up his second-straight hat trick, with a team-high 12 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) and
William Fenimore (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) each added two goals to the team's total.
Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) held down the defense with six caused turnovers and five ground balls. Eight additional Presidents recorded a caused turnover.
W&J jumped out to an early lead with goals from Petrarco and Shook, 2-0. Anderson responded quickly, rattling off four straight goals to take their first lead of the game. Petrarco and Fenimore added two goals in response, still down 5-4 heading into the second quarter.
The Presidents outscored the Ravens in the second quarter to take a 9-7 lead into the break. Mey scored all four goals in the period for the Presidents, while Shook contributed a man-up goal early in the second.
Anderson scored three goals and held the Presidents to one score in the third. Mey picked up an assist on W&J's lone quarter score by
Colin Golebiewski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum).
Going into the fourth knotted at 10, Anderson outpaced the Presidents once more in the fourth with a 3-2 margin. The Ravens scored two power play goals to take the two-goal edge. Fenimore netted the final goal of the contest at the 3:09 mark, to no avail as the Ravens took the 13-12 victory.
Noah Bracco (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) played all 60 minutes in goal with 15 saves.
W&J returns to play this coming Wednesday for a meeting with the Allegheny Gators on Wednesday (April 16). Opening faceoff at Alexandre Stadium is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
