WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team (5-9, 1-4) dropped a 12-3 decision to conference foe Allegheny (6-8, 3-3) Wednesday afternoon.
Three Presidents netted goals on the day including
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity),
William Fenimore (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Riley Bullock (Kennett Square, Pa./Wilmington Christian (Del.)).
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) contributed one assist each.
Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Petrarco handled the defensive efforts with three caused turnovers apiece. Hopkins finished with a game-high seven ground balls.
The Gators held the Presidents scoreless in the opening 26 minutes of regulation while building a 4-0 lead. W&J netted their first goal of the contest at the 3:41 mark of the second quarter, scored by Shook on an unassisted effort to bring the lead to 4-1. The Gators responded with two goals to enter the half up 6-1.
W&J opened the second half with a goal in the opening minute. Fenimore found the back of the net off the dish from Petrarco to reduce the Allegheny lead to 6-2.
The Presidents were held scoreless for the remainder of the third and late into the fourth quarter before Bullock netted a goal with 2:14 remaining in the final quarter of play. The Gators coasted to the 12-3 lead shortly after.
Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) picked up the loss with a full 60-minute effort in goal with a game-high nine saves.
The Presidents return to action at Alexandre Stadium this Friday (April 18) to face the visiting Saint Vincent Bearcats. Opening faceoff is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
