NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College softball team (10-13, 5-7) was swept in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with Westminster (18-8, 7-3) on Saturday. The Presidents dropped a game one, 3-0, and game two 7-1.
Hannah Allen led the Presidents offensively with a hit in the first game and two in the second. Sydney VanNess also recorded a multi-hit effort on the day with two hits in the nightcap.
Game One – W&J 0, Westminster 3
Allen placed a double in center field to record the lone hit for the Presidents in the game one. Allen currently leads the PAC in doubles with 15 on the season thus far, ranking fifth in batting average.
The Titans put up a run in the bottom of the third and tacked on two more in the fifth to claim the opener.
Kaylee Witner picked up her second loss in the circle, pitching all 6.0 innings.
Game 2 – W&J 1, Westminster 7
The Presidents created more opportunity to score in game two with seven hits but were unable to convert the runs as they left seven runners stranded in the game two.
Westminster scored seven runs in four innings to open game two. W&J left three baserunners stranded in the opening innings.
The Presidents lone run came in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back singles from Allen and VanNess created a chance for Aliya Schraeder to push in Allen on a single down the right field line.
Macayle Thornhill took the loss in game to for the Red & Black after 2.2 innings of work. Taylor Dunn pitched in relief for 2.0 innings. Witner closed with 1.0 scoreless inning of relief.
Up Next: The Presidents are set to host Saint Vincent in a conference doubleheader Sunday (April 12). First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
