Four Presidents Net Hat Tricks Against Westminster in Fifth-Consecutive Win

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team (7-4, 5-1) earned an 18-8 win over the Westminster Titans (9-3, 4-2) Saturday afternoon. The victory moves W&J in sole possession of second place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

Four Presidents claimed four hat tricks in the contest. Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) led the way for the Red & Black, scoring four times each. Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Cardinal Newman) and Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) also reached the three-goal threshold. Bogats' hat trick gives her a team-leading seven on the season, while Bolinda reached the 100th career point milestone.

Holland steadied the back line for the Presidents, causing two turnovers and recovering a game-high five ground balls. Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) led all players with three caused turnovers, alongside Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) who also chipped in defensively, grabbing four ground balls on the day.

W&J jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with goals by Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), Bogats, Stewart and Bolinda. The Titans responded with a goal of their own at the 1:25 mark of the first quarter to slow the W&J momentum.

The Presidents responded with five-consecutive goals throughout the next 11 minutes of gameplay to swell the lead to eight, 9-1. Holland tallied consecutive free-position goals during that stretch, while Bogats, Stewart, and Bolinda each added a goal each. Before the contest reached halftime, Westminster scored twice to cut the W&J lead to six heading into the break, 9-3.

Byard scored early in the third period while shorthanded, as the Red & Black wasted no time getting back to business on offense, scoring six times in the quarter. Stewart scored twice in the quarter, her first completing her hat trick and the second giving her a game-high four goals.

The two squads were evenly paced in the fourth quarter of action, each tallying three goals. Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) got on the board twice to keep the Presidents' lead sizable.

Gianna Baker (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) stopped eight of the 14 shots she faced to earn her fourth win of the year in goal.

W&J women's lacrosse is set to return to action this Tuesday (April 15) against Saint Vincent. The contest is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 pm in Latrobe.
