BEREA, Ohio – The Washington & Jefferson College track & field teams completed action at the 55
th Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. The W&J men finished sixth while the W&J women took 10
th.
Anthony Cestaro III (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers) continued his junior campaign, breaking another school record. In the 100-meter dash preliminary heat, Cestaro III set a new school record with a time of 10.71. This time bested Dewayne Jeter's time of 10.72 from the 1986 season, a record Jeter held for 39 years. Cestaro III finished second with a time of 10.75 in the 100-meter dash finals. He also raced to a season-best time of 21.90 in the 200-meter dash, finishing in first place.
Brock Pennington (North East, Pa./North East) picked up the sole win for the Presidents claiming first place with a new personal-best time of 3:56.92 in the 1,500-meter run.
Julian Paul (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) raced to a third-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.16.
Nick DeSanto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) led the men's jumpers with a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.86 meters.
The unit of
Lorenzo Zeni (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold), Cestaro III, Paul and
Ethan Coble (California, Pa./California Area) placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:30.75.
Sarah Schneider (Warren, Ohio/Lordstown) headed the W&J women's efforts at the annual invitational. Schneider finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.33.
Genevieve Ruth (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights) paced her way to a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:33.38.
The quad consisting of Schneider,
Marina Grado (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway),
Lainey Hartner (Washington, Pa./Fort Cherry) and
Alyssa Trn (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) took fifth in the 4x100 meter relay with a mark of 52.28.
W&J returns to action on Saturday (April 26) for the 15
th Ashland Alumni Open hosted by Division II Ashland University. First events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
