WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College baseball team (26-11) fell to the visiting Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets (24-13) in their second meeting of the season, 7-5.
Drew Garth (Glenshaw, Pa./North Hills) highlighted the W&J offense, finishing with two hits and four runs batted in.
Brian Feldman (Gibsonia, Pa./Eden Christian Academy) also had two hits on the afternoon with one RBI.
Jacob LaDuca (Clarence, N.Y./Canisius),
Knox Meier (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) and
Zac Stern (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) all had one hit.
Baldwin Wallace got on the board first with a run in the top of third, 1-0. W&J responded in the bottom of the frame with three runs. Garth smacked a three-run home run over the right field fence to give the Presidents their first lead of the game, 3-1.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead in the top of the sixth with a five-run inning, 6-3.
W&J added a run in the eighth and ninth innings but to no avail as Baldwin Walace held on for the 7-5 victory. W&J left the tying runs on first and second in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Bobby Budacki (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton Area) got his first start of the season, pitching 2.1 no-hit innings with one run allowed.
Ben Pierce (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) worked 2.2 innings of relief with one strikeout.
Jackson Fox (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) picked up the loss with 0.2 innings.
Thomas McLaren (Mars, Pa./Mars Area) worked 1.1 innings of relief.
Brandon Bastian (Barto, Pa./The Hill School) closed the final two innings with two strikeouts.
W&J works a rapid turnaround, hosting the Mount Union Purple Raiders for their third meeting of the season on Thursday (May 1). First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
