WASHINGTON, Pa. – Four Presidents recorded hat tricks as the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team rolled to a 21-8 victory over visiting Allegheny College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.
The win is the third-straight for the Presidents. W&J improves to 3-1 in the PAC and 5-4 overall.
Caleigh Bogats (Oakdale, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg) spearheaded the offensive efforts with seven points apiece. Bogats and Holland both finished with five goals and a pair of assists in the victory.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) tacked on three goals and four assists to join the trio of Presidents with seven points.
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) tallied a hat trick with three goals.
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osbourne Academy) finished with four points (two goals, two assists) to go along with a career-high nine draw controls. Defensively,
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) led all players with six ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Sammy Hartz (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) tallied four ground balls and caused four turnovers.
W&J led by a 5-2 margin after the first quarter. The Presidents scored six of the eight second quarter goals to swell its lead to 11-4 at halftime. W&J continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Allegheny by a 10-4 margin over the final 30 minutes.
Holland scored three times in the opening quarter to build the early lead. After an Allegheny goal opened the second quarter scoring, Bolinda scored consecutive goals to stretch the lead to 7-3 just minutes into the frame. The Presidents tacked on four of the next five goals, as four different players accounted for the scores as the lead reached seven goals.
Bogats scored three times in the third quarter as the Presidents continued to hold a commanding lead entering the fourth. Holland and Stewart scored twice in the final quarter along with
Brianna Nader (Cochranton, Pa./Conneaut Area), who accounted for the final score of the game. The goal is the first of Nader's collegiate career.
Gianna Baker (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) earned the win in net with five saves.
The Presidents proved dominant in the draw circle. W&J put together a decided 25-7 advantage in draw controls. The Presidents also held advantages in shots (33-16) and ground balls (25-17).
W&J heads to Geneva for a conference match on Wednesday (April 9) at 3:30 p.m. The match will be the first ever versus the Golden Tornadoes, who are in their first year as a program. The contest will take place at Wright Fields at Veterans Park.
