BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Ten players scored in a balanced effort as the Washington & Jefferson College women's lacrosse team secured a 23-1 victory over host Geneva College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday afternoon in Beaver County.
The victory is the fourth-straight for the Presidents. W&J improves to 4-1 in league play and 6-4 overall. The loss drops the Golden Tornadoes to 0-6 in league play and 0-12 overall in their inaugural campaign.
Avery Byard (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) filled the stat sheet. The freshman finished with four goals and three assists for seven points. Byard recorded game highs in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (3). She also chipped in four draw controls.
Brynne Stewart (Painesville, Ohio/Andrews Osborne Academy) posted a career-high six assists and a career-high eight points in the winning effort.
Anna Kloehn (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) finished with a season-high four goals to aid the offensive efforts.
Brianna Nader (Cochranton, Pa./Conneaut Area) registered her first collegiate hat trick while adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Mya Bolinda (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) continued her impressive junior season with five more points (two goals, three assists) to go along with four ground balls and four draw controls. Bolinda surpassed 100 career draw controls for her career in the victory.
Ella Holland (Healdsburg, Calif./Healdsburg) scooped up a game-high seven draw controls while contributing two goals, two assists and two caused turnovers.
Ella Phillips (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) tacked on four ground balls and a pair of assists.
The Presidents led by a 7-1 margin after the opening quarter. W&J netted all seven second quarter goals to stretch the lead into double figures. The Presidents tacked on five goals in the third before adding four scores in the fourth to finish off the victory.
W&J outpaced Geneva statistically in shots (29-2), ground balls (21-11), draw controls (21-5) and caused turnovers (15-2).
The Presidents return home to face Westminster College on Saturday (April 12). The game will serve as the team's annual Brittney (Oake) Upman memorial game. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
