WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's tennis team dropped their first Presidents' Athletic Conference match of the season to the Franciscan Barons, 5-2.
The Presidents fall to an even 7-7 record on the season overall with a 4-1 record in conference play. The Barons elevate to a 6-6 record overall and a 3-2 mark in conference matches.
Franciscan grabbed the first team point of the day in doubles action, 1-0.
Abhinav Yarramaneni (Mountain View, Calif./Los Altos) and
Srivatsa Bellamkonda (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) picked up the Presidents sole win in paired play with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Nate Clarke (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) won his No. 5 singles match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to give W&J their first team point of the evening.
Aarav Surapaneni (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) also bested his opponent at No. 6 singles in a closely contested match. Surapaneni took set one through a tiebreaking finish 7-6 (7-2) and edged his opponent 7-5 in the second set.
The Presidents are set to take on Grove City this Friday (April 11) on the road. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
