BETHANY, W. Va. – The Washington & Jefferson College men's lacrosse team (5-7, 1-3) dropped a 16-9 decision to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany (6-7, 2-3) Wednesday night.
Junior midfielder
Braden Petrarco (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) and senior attack
Paul Shook (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) led the Presidents in the scoring column, each with a hat trick on the night.
Zach Mey (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette),
Colin Golebiewski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and
Dylan Batche (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) also added one goal into the fold.
Logan Waychoff (Washington, Pa./Trinity),
Olin Putz (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) and
Austin Hopkins (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) all led the Presidents defensively with two caused turnovers each. Hopkins picked up a game-high eight ground balls.
The Bison opened the contest with an 8-0 run that carried into the midst of the second quarter. Petrarco halted the run with a goal at the 7:53 mark of the second off a pass from
Riley Bullock (Kennett Square, Pa./Wilmington Christian (Del.)). Shook followed up with an unassisted goal. The Bison carried a 9-2 lead into the half.
Batche and Golebiewski found the back of the net in the third as the Presidents were outscored 4-2.
The Presidents managed to outscore the Bison in the fourth 4-3. Petrarco fired in two unassisted goals at the opening of the fourth quarter. Shook added an unassisted effort minutes later to bring the Bethany lead to 14-7. Mey and Shook scored goals in the closing minutes to no avail as Bethany took the 16-9 victory.
Stephen Moschetta (Washington, Pa./Trinity) picked up the loss with a 60-minute effort with 13 saves.
W&J takes a brief break from PAC play to face nonconference opponent Anderson on Saturday (April 12). Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
