PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Washington & Jefferson College men's soccer (1-0) opened its 2025 campaign with a 1-0 road victory against the La Roche Redhawks (0-1).
Through the first 45 minutes of play, the Redhawks generated an offensive advantage. La Roche held a 9-3 edge in shots while the Presidents remained stout on the defensive end with five saves to take 0-0 stalemate into the half.
Minutes after a corner kick early in the second half, junior Cole Young (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) capitalized on a scuffle in front of the net to slot the President's lone goal at the 52:54 mark. Despite the continued pressure presented by the Redhawks, the Presidents held on to the 1-0 lead for their first victory of the season.
The Presidents' defensive line held together, only giving up seven shots on target. All seven shots were saved by goalkeeper Logan Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), giving him his first shutout of the season in 90 minutes of play.
The Presidents look to take their defensive momentum back to Alexandre Stadium for their home opener against the Marietta Pioneers on Wednesday (Sept. 3). Opening touch is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
