Women’s Soccer Upended by Juniata in Final Home Nonconference Match

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Washington and Jefferson Presidents women's soccer team (3-3) fell to the Juniata Eagles (2-2-2) by a score of 2-1.

The Presidents had a strong offensive start to the contest as junior Dove Corrette-Bennett (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) scored her second goal of the season in the 19th minute, giving the Presidents an early 1-0 lead. Following the W&J goal, Juniata equalized the match in the 33rd minute, 1-1. At the half, the Eagles led 5-3 on shots and 3-1 on corner kicks.

In the first fifteen minutes of the second half, the Presidents had two corner kicks and three shots on target. A team save from the Eagles and a shot off the post kept the game tied at one. Juniata took over the game in the final stages with the winning goal in the 70th minute which caried the Eagles to a 2-1 victory.

In goal, Junior Molly Schoch (Burgettstown, Pa./Burgettstown) made four saves throughout the duration of the game.

The Presidents look to bounce back next Saturday (Sept. 20) as they travel to take on Pitt-Greensburg. Kickoff against the Bobcats will commence at 2:00 p.m.
